John L. Kessel 

USA Volleyball (USAV)

Director of Sport Development 

Since 1985 John has been working for the National Governing Body of the sport, USA Volleyball (USAV). He has been coaching since 1971 at the collegiate level or above. A sought-after international lecturer, blogger, tweeter, and writer has conducted seminars in all 50 states, and over 60 nations.

He has been part of every summer Olympics or Paralympics, but two starting in 1984 and many Beach and ParaVolley Volleyball World Championships. He is currently Secretary of the NORCECA Development Commission and Director of Development for World ParaVolley.

In 1995, Volleyball Magazine’s special Centennial issue named John one of the 50 most influential people in the sport in the past 100 years. In 2013 the American Volleyball Coaches Association inducted him as their 60th ever member of the AVCA Coaches Hall of Fame.

In 2019 John became the 50th recipient in history of USAV’s highest award for a lifetime of service, the “Frier Award.” The Facebook group “Volleyball Coaches & Trainers” he administrates as a closed group has nearly 20,000 members who “say what they mean; mean what they say and are not mean when they say it.”

Kris Keller

Club Director, Vibe Volleyball Club

Kris Keller was “born” into volleyball. His father, Val, was the U.S. National Women’s and Men’s team coach, the National Technical Director of Canada, the National Technical Director of the USVBA, the author of one of the first books on volleyball, the author of the National Technical Journal, and traveled the world running coaching clinics for the IVBF (International Federation of Volleyball).

 

Kris played high school volleyball in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and club ball for the Onion Patch Volleyball Club, winning the Canadian Jr. National Championships two years in a row. After moving to Huntington Beach, CA, Kris joined the Tiger Volleyball Club, winning the U.S. Junior championship that year. He received a VB scholarship to the Division 1 University, SDSU, playing setter for three years, then moving to outside hitter during their rebuilding program his senior year.

 

Kris has been coaching Soccer and Volleyball for 17 years with fifteen years in Volleyball starting with work at MVHS’s JV program in 2005. In 2005-2006, the volleyball club Vibe was established with its first 15-1 Power team. In the Fall of 2006, Kris accepted the position of JV coach at Bentley School in Lafayette. In 2007, he took over their women’s varsity program and coached there for six years. In 2013, Kris focused all his volleyball attention on Vibe, including being trained at USA Volleyball CAP and Gold Medal Squared courses.  Kris now runs club Vibe, coaches a couple of teams, runs many of practices, organizes clinics, cheers for everyone, and just loves the game. 

 

Club Vibe has 21 teams in the 2018-19 club season, runs both summer beach and indoor clinics, has a very extensive fall ball program preparing girls for the club season, runs a spring development program for girls not playing club, and now is excited about being part of MiniVolley.

Jeremy Penaflor

Ohlone College Head Women's Volleyball Coach & Instructor. Ohlone Junior Volleyball Club Director.

Jeremy begins his tenth season with the Renegades volleyball program. Under his guidance, Ohlone Volleyball has seen steady improvement in both classroom and on-the-court performance and an overall program improvement with the establishment of instructional youth programs like boys and girls club teams, youth leagues, skill clinics, and summer camps.

 

Jeremy and the Renegades Volleyball program most recently experienced a taste of success during the 2015 season, tallying a record of 19-6, and the 2012 season finishing with a 19-5 and qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in over 12 years.

Jeremy received his Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Management from San Jose State and was a San Jose State men's club volleyball team member. As a player, he was named to the All NCCVL First Team (2002, 2004) and the NIRSA National Championship Tournament All-Tournament Libero (2002, 2003).

 

He recently completed his graduate program and received his Master's Degree in Sports Management from the California University of Pennsylvania. Penaflor, married in March of 2011, currently resides in Concord with his wife Sarah, daughter Lilly (5yrs old), and youngest daughter Vivian (16 months old). They have a cat named Kitty, and the family loves being home when volleyball is not happening.

Casper Tribler

CEO, Scio+

A veteran of the data analytical world, Casper leads Scio+, a company in agricultural data science. He has a Master's Degree in Business Administration and Commercial Law with a specialty in Corporate Strategy. 

Casper enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, participating in various charities, and actively improving his community. MiniVolley is one of his pet projects, which he shares with his two daughters, Sofia (10 years old) and Julia (6 years old.)

Dat Haba

Founder, MobiKredit

Dat brings a broad experience in sales, strategy, and business development to MiniVolley. Before founding MobiKredit, a Fintech company that uses mobile data for credit assessment for the U.S. underserved banking population, he held many positions in the mobile world and has over 11 years of ex-pat experience working in Europe and the Middle East. 

Dat earned his Bachelor's Degree from California State University, East Bay. He also volunteers his time coaching volleyball at a local school and youth organizations.
